Monetary mapping · United States
United States M2 is the reference mapping for MM2
The United States component uses the Federal Reserve’s official M2 series and therefore serves as the conceptual reference for the cross-country harmonisation used by MM2. No substitute aggregate is required for this jurisdiction: the production registry classifies the series as a core M2 measure, while the other countries are mapped to the official national aggregate judged closest in instrument composition to this reference.
That does not make U.S. M2 a universal legal definition of broad money. National financial systems classify deposits and money-like instruments differently, so MM2 aims for practical conceptual comparability rather than exact instrument-by-instrument identity. For the U.S. component, the conversion to current U.S. dollars is mechanically neutral because the source series is already denominated in dollars; changes in its MM2 contribution therefore reflect the monetary stock itself rather than an FX translation effect.
