Monetary mapping · Russia
Russia is represented by the Bank of Russia M2X broad-money series
The Russian component uses the Bank of Russia’s M2X broad-money series. In the frozen source registry it is classified as a core M2 / close variant: conceptually close enough to serve the same role in the harmonised framework, while retaining its national definition and label instead of being silently renamed as U.S. M2.
The M2X designation is therefore important metadata, not a cosmetic difference. It signals that the Russian source series is a national broad-money variant and that cross-country comparability is based on economic function rather than identical statistical construction. As with the other non-U.S. components, MM2 converts the official local-currency stock into current U.S. dollars. Changes in the observed contribution can consequently reflect both Russian monetary dynamics and the RUB/USD conversion used for the reference month.
